Here’s a weekly roundup of the latest retail and restaurant activity around Whatcom County:

Downtown Bellingham shop to expand

A downtown staple shop may be expanding, as a building permit application has been filed by Cresswell Boggs gift shop to “expand retail into former restaurant.” Next door to the gift shop is the former location of Pita Pit, which closed in January.

The application was filed June 12 and had not been approved as of June 13. Cresswell Boggs is located at 1300 Railroad Ave. in downtown Bellingham.

Boundary on State opens

Boundary on State is a new restaurant and bar offshoot of Boundary Bay Brewery, which closed in September. The new location was announced back in February. It’s a new brick-and-mortar location at the former site of Time and Materials Taphouse, which closed in late 2024.

Boundary on State is open from noon to 9 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday at 954 N. State St. in Bellingham.

Juneteenth closures

Juneteenth is Friday, June 19, and to celebrate the holiday some local businesses, offices and city services will be closed.

Dairy farm tours Saturday

On Saturday, June 20, local dairy farms, cheesemaking facilities and creameries will be opening their doors for self-guided tour during the fifth annual Whatcom This Whey event.

“Visitors can meet farmers, tour milking parlors, interact with cows and calves, sample dairy products, and learn firsthand how local dairy foods are produced. At a time when consumers are increasingly interested in where their food comes from, this event offers rare behind-the-scenes access to modern dairy farming and the families who make it possible,” a news release for the event states.

From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., seven dairy farms will be open to visitors, including Edaleen Dairy, Ferndale Farmstead, Grace Harbor Farms, Twin Sisters Creamery, Blok’s Evergreen Dairy, Acme Farms Cheese, Steensma Creamery and Twin Brook Creamery.

Father’s Day car show Sunday

Bellewood Farms and Distillery will be hosting a free Father’s Day car show from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 21.

About 250 cars are expected, along with live music from DJ Big Daddy DeVille, farm-made hard cider and spirits, apple cider donuts and food from the farm’s Ten Mile Cafe.

Those wishing to enter their car in the show can register online in advance by 11 a.m. Sunday.

Bellewood Farms & Distillery is located at 6140 Guide Meridian in Lynden.
