Whatcom Roundup: Downtown Bellingham eatery closes; new shops in Lynden

Downtown Bellingham restaurant closure
Pita Pit, a chain restaurant with a location in downtown Bellingham, has officially closed, according to the restaurant’s website.
The Bellingham restaurant’s closure was first hinted at in January 2024 in a Facebook post looking for potential buyers.
“After rolling pitas for 13 years, I’m hanging up my apron and looking to sell. We have a location in prime downtown area in Bellingham, Washington. If you’re looking to buy, shoot me a message, and we can chat,” the post states.
As of Dec. 31, the Bellingham location is no longer listed on the chain’s website.
Pita Pit was located at 201 East Holly St. in downtown Bellingham.
Chipotle opening in Lynden
Chipotle, the national chain restaurant known for its build-your-own burrito structure, is planning a new restaurant in Lynden, at the previous location of Jack in the Box.
The company has filed multiple permits for its new location at 8083 Guide Meridian Rd., and construction has already begun.
The new location will include indoor dining, restrooms and an outdoor patio dining area.
No opening date has been announced. This will be the third Chipotle location in Whatcom County, along with the two Bellingham locations at 1 Bellis Fair Parkway and 104 Samish Way.
Brio Laundry opens new Lynden location
Laundromat and dry cleaning business Brio Laundry has opened its third Whatcom County location in Lynden.
The laundromat is known for modern laundry machines, free Wi-Fi, dry cleaning and cleaning services, self-serve steaming stations, laundry folding stations, and snack and beverage vending machines.
Brio Laundry’s new location is at 8151 Guide Meridian, Suite B. and is open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
