Boundary Bay Brewery owners launching smaller venture in downtown Bellingham
Boundary Bay Brewery is making a comeback of sorts, just months after ownership closed the flagship brewery and restaurant on Railroad Avenue.
The popular Bellingham-based brewery closed last September after its owners, husband-and-wife duo Ed Bennett and Janet Lightner, reached 30 years of business downtown.
After closing, the brewery passed some of its recipes to Black Raven Brewery in Woodinville, Washington, to continue brewing.
Just last month, the brewery also opened a new tasting room in collaboration with Mercato delle Bonta, a local Italian restaurant and deli, called “The Boundary Bay Tasting Room by Mercato delle Bonta.”
Boundary Bay owners recently announced they are opening a new brick and mortar location in the previous location of Time and Materials Taphouse that closed in November 2024.
“We’re opening a new, smaller space in downtown Bellingham,” a Feb. 20 Instagram post by Boundary Bay states. “True to the spirit and a tip of the hat to the old, this fresh new gathering place will feature a nanobrewery, a rotating and carefully curated food menu, along with wine, signature cocktails and the Boundary Bay beers you know and love.”
The new location, located on State Street, will be called “Boundary on State.”
“Built for conversation, connection and community. More details coming soon,” the post states.
No official opening date has been set. Boundary on State will be at 954 N State St. in downtown Bellingham.
