Whatcom Roundup: Boundary Bay lingers, and there’s a new Bellingham restaurant
Here’s our weekly roundup of the latest retail and restaurant activity around Whatcom County:
New Bellingham restaurant
Wingstop is planning a new restaurant in Bellingham. The chicken wing chain restaurant filed a building permit application for a new location at 177 Telegraph Rd. in Bellingham. The building permit was filed Dec. 30 and had not been approved as of Jan. 2. It would be Whatcom County’s only Wingstop location.
Ragfinery reopening delayed
Ragfinery, a Bellingham textiles recycling business and nonprofit thrift shop, has delayed its reopening after temporarily closing back in December 2024 due to a fire.
The shop was first planned to reopen Jan. 2, but now has postponed the reopening until Friday, Jan. 9.
Once reopened, the shop will be open regularly from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Ragfinery is at 115 Unity St., Suite 101 in Bellingham.
Boundary Bay Brewery makes a comeback
Boundary Bay Brewery is making a return, but not how you may expect.
Boundary Bay has teamed up with Mercato delle Bonta, a local Italian restaurant and deli, to open “The Boundary Bay Tasting Room by Mercato delle Bonta.”
The new tasting room will launch with an opening from 2 to 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 10.
“As locally and family-owned businesses, we share an understanding of how much a good meal and a great beer matter when they are enjoyed together. Mercato delle Bontà’s expanded space brings Boundary Bay beer into the thoughtful, ingredient-driven setting Mercato is known for. It is a place to slow down, gather, and savor time with friends, family, and neighbors,” a Facebook post announcing the collaboration states.
The tasting room will serve flagship and seasonal drafts, as well as cans to go. Boundary Bay Brewery closed its restaurant and brewery back in Sept. 2025.
Mercato deela Bonta is at 1211 Granary Ave. in Bellingham.
