Bellingham nonprofit thrift shop damaged by fire set to reopen at new location
A downtown Bellingham shop is reopening at a new location after closing down last year due to damage from a fire.
Ragfinery is a textiles recycling business and nonprofit thrift shop that was located at 1421 N Forest St. in Bellingham until a fire closed the business in December 2024.
Only a few days after the fire, the nonprofit received more than $25,000 in donations to continue paying employees after the closure and to work toward reopening.
In August, Ragfinery announced a new location would be opening soon, allowing the popular business to return to Bellingham.
“After months and months of searching we are beyond excited to announce that we will be reopening retail operations before winter at 115 Unity Street Suite 101,” according to an Aug. 16 social media post.
“The space needs work, and we have so much to replace after the fire. We lost nearly the entirety of our stock, fixtures, electronics, our home for the past 10 years and our retail staff have lost their jobs,” the post states.
Ragfinery announced this week that it will officially reopen at the new location on Jan. 2, according to an email from the business.
“Get ready for a new year, new Ragfinery! We’re so excited to welcome our beloved community back, and we need your support as we make this final push. We hope you’ll consider us on this #givingtuesday and help us meet our opening day goal! You can donate to our $1-for-$1 match campaign here,” the email states.
“Also, while we’re not quite ready to accept donations, we’ll be announcing a donation drive soon, so be on the lookout …,” the email states.
No operating hours have been announced, but the new shop will be at 115 Unity St., Suite 101 in Bellingham.
