Whatcom Roundup: Two new Bellingham restaurants; brewery progress; cancer center expands
Here’s your weekly roundup of the latest retail and restaurant activity around Whatcom County:
New restaurant coming to Bellingham
A new restaurant may be moving into the previous location of Gandolfo’s New York Deli at 107 E Stuart Rd., near Walmart. The new restaurant, Alba’s Cocina, filed a liquor license application for the location on March 11. The application had not been approved as of March 13.
New downtown Bellingham restaurant
Bordertown Mexican Grill is planning to open its new Bellingham restaurant on Saturday, March 22, according to a recent Facebook post.
The restaurant currently has one location in Blaine and will now serve downtown Bellingham at 1055 N State St., the previous location of Pepper Sisters, which closed in December.
No operating hours have been announced.
Fairhaven Poke restaurant temporarily closed
Fairhaven Poke, a Hawaiian style poke restaurant in Fairhaven, is temporarily closed after also announcing an upcoming permanent closure last month.
Restaurant management has not announced a date for permanent closure. Water damage to the building forced a temporarily closure on March 1.
No reopening date has been announced. Fairhaven Poke is at 1102 Harris Ave. in Bellingham.
New brewery in Bellingham
Blaine-based Beach Cat Brewery is making progress on its new location in Bellingham, according to a recent Instagram post.
No opening date has been announced, and the new brewery will be at 1010 C St. Suite 107, near Bellingham’s waterfront.
PeaceHealth cancer center expanding
PeaceHealth St. Joseph Cancer Center has filed a building permit application with the city of Bellingham to convert a conference room into a cancer treatment room with six infusion bays.
The project has an estimated cost of $50,000, and was approved March 3. PeaceHealth St. Joseph Cancer Center is at 3301 Squalicum Parkway in Bellingham
