‘We are devastated’: Downtown Bellingham restaurant closed permanently; new shop moves in
A downtown Bellingham restaurant has announced its permanent closure in a social media post after the restaurant was listed for sale earlier this year.
Pepper Sisters, a Southwestern restaurant “where New Mexico meets the Pacific Northwest,” is closed after an impressive 36-year run, according to a Facebook post.
“... It is a wildly difficult time to run a restaurant, and after all of the pandemic and post-pandemic hoopla, we are tuckered, as the effort and challenges grew,” the post states.
“We know this news might feel shocking and devastating — we are devastated too. It was never really in the plans for the Pepper Sisters flame to be extinguished, but sometimes life takes a wonky turn or seven,” the post states.
The restaurant was listed for sale months ago for $180,000, including the business name, rights, building and equipment.
“Although we were holding out hope that some eager and willing patron would swoop in and want to take over the business, alas, we are closing our doors,” the social media post states.
Earlier this month, Bordertown Mexican Grill, a Mexican restaurant with locations in Blaine and Lynden, announced a new location in Pepper Sister’s location, before Pepper Sisters announced its closure, according to previous reporting.
“Thank you, oh so much and from the bottom of our hearts, for 36 years of sharing meals with you. It was a glorious chapter,” Pepper Sister’s Facebook post states.
Pepper Sisters was located at 1055 N State St. in downtown Bellingham.
