Dining out? These Whatcom County restaurants opened or closed in February

Looking for a new restaurant to try out? Here are some Whatcom County eateries that opened in February and one that closed permanently.

New Whatcom County restaurants

Main Street Bread

Main Street Bread, a new family-owned bakery in downtown Ferndale, officially opened Feb. 3. The artisan bakery’s offerings include homemade breads, cinnamon rolls, almond, chocolate and butter croissants, cookies, cakes, pretzels and Rice Krispies treats.

Main Street Bread is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday at 2054 Main St. in Ferndale, the previous location of Barb’s Pies and Pastries.

Aegis Taphouse

Downtown Bellingham board game shop Aegis Games recently expanded, adding a taphouse to its shop on Feb. 13.

“We feature 14-plus taps, beer, cider, wine, and of course, local root beer,” management stated in a Feb. 7 social media post. “More importantly, we will have a large selection of board games for rental, and all of our tables can be used as play space.”

Aegis Games and Tap House is open from noon to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday at 1431 Railroad Ave.

Liminal Coffee

Liminal Coffee opened Feb. 14 on the bottom floor of Lighthouse Missions as part of the missions’ aim to help homeless neighbors through offering meals, shelter and recovery programs.

The coffee shop was planned years ago as a way to provide jobs to residents who may have trouble finding work.

The coffee shop has plenty of indoor space, and a wide variety of menu items featuring coffee from Makeworth Coffee Roasters, pastries from Lamination Station, and breakfast burritos and sandwiches from Café Rumba, all Bellingham-based businesses.

Liminal Coffee is open from 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday at 916 Holly St. in Bellingham.

Chipotle

Chipotle opened its third location in Whatcom County on Feb. 17 in Lynden. The new location features a “Chipotlane,” a drive-through for picking up online orders. The restaurant is open 10:45 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily at 8083 Guide Meridian Rd. in Lynden.

Piroshky Piroshky

Piroshky Piroshky, a popular Eastern European-inspired bakery, opened a new location in Ferndale on Feb. 27.

The popular bakery has been operating out of Pike Place Market for more than three decades since being started by Olga Sagan, the company’s sole owner.

The bakery is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily at Lummi Bay Market, a large service station on Rural Avenue just south of Slater Road, is regularly open 24 hours daily at 4839 Rural Ave in Ferndale.

Closed Whatcom County restaurant

Country Patty’s Cafe

Country Patty’s Cafe, a breakfast and brunch restaurant, permanently closed Feb. 20, just over two months ofter opening. The menu included omelets, eggs Benedict, pancakes, waffles, burgers, sandwiches, salads and more.

The cafe was at 1415 Railroad Ave., the previous location of Ay Chihuahua Cantina.
