Whatcom County gas prices jump; WA has nation’s second-highest gas prices
Gas prices in Bellingham, Whatcom County and Washington increased in comparison to The Herald’s September survey, and we found the cheapest local gas station for you.
The average price of a gallon of gas across the United States was $3.13 on Monday, Oct. 6, according to AAA — 7 cents down from last month. Last year, the nation’s average was $3.17.
Here’s the local breakdown:
Washington
Washington’s average cost of gas per gallon is now $4.51 — a 9-cent increase compared to September’s average. Last October, gas averaged $4.03 a gallon in Washington, according to AAA.
Washington now has the second-highest gas prices in the country, following California at $4.65 a gallon, according to AAA.
Whatcom County and Bellingham
Whatcom County’s average cost of gas is $4.33 a gallon, a 5-cent increase compared to September.
On Monday, Oct. 6, Bellingham’s average price for a gallon of gas was $4.33, according to AAA, a 5-cent increase compared to last month.
County’s cheapest gas

The cheapest gas price in Whatcom County on Monday, Oct. 6, was $3.72 at Costco, 4125 Arctic Ave. in Bellingham, according to GasBuddy.
Last month, gas prices in Bellingham, Whatcom County and Washington stayed the same.
