Gas prices in Bellingham, Whatcom County and Washington either decreased or held steady in comparison to The Herald’s August survey, and we found the cheapest local gas station for you.
The average price of a gallon of gas across the United States was $3.19 on Wednesday, Sept. 3, according to AAA — 4 cents up from last month. Last year, the nation’s average was $3.32.
Here’s the local breakdown:
Washington
Washington’s average cost of gas per gallon is now $4.39 — the same price as August’s average. Last September, gas averaged $4.15 a gallon in Washington, according to AAA. Washington has the third-highest gas prices in the country, following Hawaii at $4.46 a gallon and California at $4.60 a gallon, according to AAA.
Whatcom County
Whatcom County’s average cost of gas is $4.27 a gallon, the same price compared to August. On Wednesday, Sept. 3, Bellingham’s average price for a gallon of gas was $4.28, according to AAA. That’s also the same price as last month’s average.
County’s cheapest gas

The cheapest gas price in Whatcom County on Wednesday, Sept. 3, was $3.72 at Costco, 4125 Arctic Ave. in Bellingham, according to GasBuddy.
Last month, gas prices in Bellingham, Whatcom County and Washington decreased.
