Here’s your weekly roundup of the latest retail and restaurant activity around Whatcom County:

New Lummi Island restaurant opens

Lummi Island has welcomed a new restaurant called The Galley, which is connected to The Islander general store.

The new restaurant opened Sunday, Aug. 17, according to an Instagram post on the restaurant’s profile. The menu features pressed sandwiches, salads and soups, as well as wine and beer on tap.

“There’s space to eat inside or outside in the beer garden, surrounded by the island breeze . Thanks for a great opening weekend,” the restaurant’s website states.

The new restaurant and general store is located at 2106 S Nugent Rd. in Lummi Island. No operating hours have been posted.

Ragfinery opening in downtown Bellingham

Textile recycling business Ragfinery has found a new location in downtown Bellingham after the shop closed its previous location due to a fire.

“After months and months of searching we are beyond excited to announce that we will be reopening retail operations before winter at 115 Unity Street Suite 101,” according to a Facebook post on Aug. 16.

“The space needs work, and we have so much to replace after the fire. We lost nearly the entirety of our stock, fixtures, electronics, our home for the past 10 years and our retail staff have lost their jobs,” the post states.

No opening date has been announced.

Last month restaurant owners announced plans to reopen this fall. They are currently hiring for various positions.

“This isn’t just a business plan; it’s our passion and our promise to restore a place full of memories, create local jobs, and keep a 50+-plus-year tradition alive. With your support, we can open the doors once again, welcome old friends and new faces, and serve up the meals and moments that make Fairhaven special,” the GoFundMe page states.

The restaurant is trying to raise $12,000 to reopen, and as of Aug. 20 had raised $1,825. Donations can be made online.

No reopening date has been announced. Dirty Dan Harris Steakhouse is at 1211 11th St. in Bellingham’s Fairhaven neighborhood.

New bank joins Barkley Village

Washington Trust Bank has opened its first full service financial center in Bellingham, according to a news release from Washington Trust. The new bank at 2210 Rimland Drive opened Aug. 11, “offering customers a broad spectrum of commercial, small business, mortgage, private, and retail banking services as well as wealth management services.” The new Bellingham location is the bank’s 44th branch, with locations across Washington, Oregon and Idaho.
