Whatcom Roundup: New Bellingham brewery; food truck closing, Memorial Day events

New brewery opening in Bellingham
Blaine-based Beach Cat Brewing is opening a new location along Bellingham’s waterfront next week. The new brewery will open at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 29 at 1010 C St. Suite 107 in Bellingham.
No operating hours have been announced.
Bellingham food truck closing
Burnt Side Down, a Bellingham-based grilled cheese sandwich food truck, is closing, and the business is now listed for sale.
“While we’re excited for the next chapter, we want to give a huge THANK YOU for all your support throughout the past 2 years. We will keep going “Business as Usual” while it is for sale. You can still find us at Stemma Brewery, 2039 Moore St. 6 days a week,” a social media post on the business’ profile states.
The food truck business is listed for sale on Craigslist for $79,000 and includes the truck, LLC business, equipment, merchandise and supplies.
Bellingham bakery recognized by national nonprofit
The national nonprofit People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) recently published a list of the top 10 best vegan wedding cakes across the country and awarded a spot to Bellingham’s own James Street Cakes bakery.
“James Street Cakes is baking up beautiful wedding cakes without a crumb of cruelty to chickens or cows. Every winner on PETA’s list is a perfect match for couples committed to helping all animals live happily ever after,” Ingrid Newkirk, PETA president, stated on the organization’s website.
“Established by Caitlyn Klein in 2022, James Street Cakes offers a wide assortment of vegan cakes, fillings, and buttercream icings in big flavors for the Big Day, including luscious lemon, indulgent chocolate chip, and festive confetti.”
James Street Cakes offers cakes, cupcakes and macarons available through online ordering.
