Whatcom Roundup: Two new restaurants making progress; State Street Bar update; local events
Here’s your weekly roundup of the latest retail and restaurant activity around Whatcom County:
State Street Bar proposed reopening
State Street Bar and Grill has been closed since a fire damaged the building in January 2024, but the business may soon reopen. Owners filed a nightclub license application with the city on March 13. They also filed a building permit application for “repairs to bar due to fire damage” back in July 2024.
State Street Bar and Grill was located at 1315 N State Street in Bellingham. No reopening date has been announced.
MOTO Pizza coming to Bellingham
MOTO Pizza is making progress at its new Bellingham restaurant, as a building permit for the new tenant remodel was approved March 10 by the city of Bellingham.
The chain is known for its unique pizza toppings and its locations in Seattle, T-Mobile Park, Bellevue and more.
The restaurant is planned for 4373 Meridian St., the current location of Taco Time. No opening date has been announced.
Mexican restaurant opening in downtown Bellingham
Bordertown Mexican Grill is opening its new Bellingham restaurant on Saturday, March 22, according to a recent Facebook post.
During the grand opening, two diners will randomly be selected to win $500 each. No operating hours have been announced.
The restaurant currently has one location in Blaine and will now serve downtown Bellingham at 1055 N State St., the previous location of Pepper Sisters, which closed in December.
