WWU police identify man found dead near Buchanan Towers
Western Washington University Police have identified the man whose body was found in early March in a wooded area near Buchanan Towers North Residence Hall after his family became worried after not hearing from him and contacted authorities.
The man has been identified as Ahmad J. Hill, 26, according to a WWU campus advisory Thursday, June 4, which added that he was living in an apartment in the 2300 block of Bill McDonald Parkway near Western’s campus, though he was not a current or former Western student.
Hill’s body was found March 5 on the WWU campus, but police were not able to identify him until recently. They asked for help by releasing a police sketch in late March, and in May released a picture of Hill taken off surveillance video at Walgreens on Samish Way in Bellingham approximately two weeks before his body was found.
Meanwhile, Hill’s family in Dutch Harbor, Alaska, became concerned when they did not hear from him and contacted authorities, Thursday’s release stated.
University police made positive identification, based on a debit card Hill used when make a purchase at the Walgreens, according to the release.
“The Western Washington University community offers its deepest condolences to Hill’s family in the wake of his tragic death,” the release stated.
The Whatcom County Medical Examiner previously determined Hill’s cause of death to be suicide.
