Restaurant closing for a remodel, produce markets ready, pizza restaurant opens in Whatcom

Here’s a roundup of recent retail activity around Whatcom County:

Narrative Coffee, which has a cafe in Everett, will have a soft opening for its new Bellingham location on Tuesday, Feb. 22. It is going into the former Primer Coffee spot next to Elizabeth Station at 1400 W. Holly St.

Once open, hours will be 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Details about Narrative Coffee can be found on its website.

El Ray Restaurant & Sports Bar in the Fountain District announced on Facebook that it is temporarily closed for remodeling and creating a new menu. The post did not have a reopening date.

The Sugar Shack Ice Cream truck is under new ownership. New owner Jamie Ford said in a Facebook post that the plan is to continue serving Whatcom County and will announce specific routes and events soon.

Joe’s Gardens in Bellingham is planning for a Monday, Feb. 28, opening at 3110 Taylor Ave. Over the past few weeks the farm has trimmed and transplanted around 50,000 strawberry plants, with another 20,000 to go, according to a Facebook post.

Once open, hours will be 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, closed Sunday.

The Bellingham Farmers Market announced that it will be back on the waterfront for its Wednesday events. The market will be near Waypoint Park from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesdays June through September.

The Lynden Tribune reports that plans are in the works for a new Shell gas station and 4,545-square-foot store at the corner of Main Street and Guide Meridian. The plans were submitted to the city and are going through the permit process.

Westside Pizza is now open in Blaine on H Street near the Cost Cutter grocery store. According to its website, hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., open an hour later on Friday and Saturday.

The Cornwall Medical Center opened last week at 2216 Cornwall Ave., near Bellingham High School. The building is home to Advanced Sports Chiropractic and Massage and Mt. Shuksan Family Medicine and Dermatology.
