Bellingham airport ended up with less traffic in 2019. Here’s why

With cuts in the number of flights, Bellingham International Airport had fewer people flying out of Bellingham in 2019 than the year before.

Last year 343,628 people flew out of Bellingham, down 8.5% compared to 2018, according to data collected by the Port of Bellingham. The airport did have similar cargo loaded/unloaded totals compared to the previous year, according to the data.

In June Alaska Airlines announced it would end its seasonal flights between Bellingham and Hawaii. Alaska currently offers 4-5 daily flights between Bellingham and Seattle, while Allegiant Air offers eight western U.S. destinations out of the Bellingham airport.

The new flights out of Paine Field in Everett also appear to be impacting Bellingham’s passenger totals. Alaska Airlines had nearly 300,000 passengers fly out of Everett between March and July. Alaska and United have flights to 11 destinations from the Everett airport.
