This Whatcom man will spend time in prison for multiple indecent exposures incidents
A 43-year-old man will spend a year in prison for exposing himself to multiple people last year.
Corey James Joyner pleaded guilty May 16 in Whatcom County Superior Court to one count of indecent exposure, a felony. Joyner was sentenced the same day to one year and one day in prison, with one year of probation.
As part of his sentencing, Joyner will be required to undergo a drug and alcohol evaluation and comply with any treatment, according to court records.
Joyner was previously charged with two counts of felony indecent exposure in two separate cases related to incidents that occurred in July 2021 where Joyner exposed himself while at a downtown Bellingham business and a Barkley neighborhood business.
One of Joyner’s two pending cases was dismissed without prejudice in exchange for his guilty plea in his other case, court records show.
Joyner was previously convicted of two counts of felony indecent exposure on May 18, 2021, for incidents in 2019 and 2020, where Joyner exposed himself to multiple people, including two children, along Alabama Street, and masturbated while watching another person while at a downtown coffee shop.
Joyner was sentenced to nine months in jail May 18, 2021, for those two cases. He was released from the Whatcom County Jail the same day as his sentencing in May 2021, because he had been in custody pending trial since his arrest and had ultimately served more days pre-trial than he was sentenced to, jail and court records show.
Within the following two months after his release in May 2021, Bellingham police had contacted Joyner at least 15 times. At least five of those incidents involved reports of Joyner exposing himself, the court records state.
On July 6, 2021, Bellingham police were called to the former Anmly Café on Commercial Street for the report of a man, later identified as Joyner, refusing to leave the business. When a Base Camp downtown liaison showed up to assist Joyner, Joyner exposed his genitals, the court records show.
Several days later, on July 17, Joyner exposed himself to a Kentucky Fried Chicken employee while she was in the parking lot in the Barkley neighborhood. Joyner then later urinated in front of the woman, the court records state.
