Man arrested for indecent exposure at a downtown Bellingham coffee shop

Bellingham police arrested a man who reportedly was seen masturbating while watching another person at a downtown coffee shop Friday evening.

Corey James Joyner, 41, was booked into Whatcom County Jail Feb. 7 on suspicion of indecent exposure and resisting arrest, and jail records show he’s being held in lieu of $20,000 bail.

Police were called at 6:20 p.m. to the Woods Coffee on Prospect Street, where witnesses and the victim reported seeing Joyner seated at the bar with his belt loosened and his pants down, Lt. Claudia Murphy told The Bellingham Herald in an email.

Officers attempted to place Joyner under arrest, Murphy reported, but he physically resisted, tensing his arms and making fists. Police took him to the ground and placed him in handcuffs.

Whatcom County Superior Court records show Joyner is scheduled to stand trial March 2 on indecent exposure charges stemming from an Oct. 18, 2019, incident, in which he allegedly exposed himself at the Dairy Queen on Cordata Parkway.
