Gas prices drop by more than 70 cents in Bellingham compared to last month
Gas prices decreased in Bellingham, Whatcom County and Washington in July compared to The Herald’s June survey, and we found the cheapest local gas station for you.
The average price of a gallon of gas across the United States was $3.83 Thursday, July 2, according to AAA — a decrease of 46 cents from last month. Last year, the nation’s average was $3.17.
Here’s the local breakdown comparing the price of regular gas:
Washington
Washington’s average cost of gas per gallon is now $5.09 — a 53-cent decrease compared to June’s average. Last July, gas averaged $4.42 a gallon in Washington, according to AAA.
Washington has the third-highest gas prices in the country, following Hawaii at $5.48 and California at $5.40 a gallon, according to AAA. Washington has had the third-highest gas prices in the U.S. for nine consecutive months.
Whatcom County and Bellingham
Whatcom County’s average cost of gas is $4.86 a gallon, a 65-cent decrease compared to June.
On Thursday, July 2, Bellingham’s average price for a gallon of gas was also $4.86, according to AAA, a 76-cent decrease compared to June.

The cheapest gas price in Whatcom County on Thursday, July 2, was $4.09 at ARCO at 8247 Guide Meridian Rd in Lynden, according to GasBuddy.
