Gas prices hit $5.60 in Whatcom County, as WA has the third-highest prices again

Gas prices increased by more than 20 cents per gallon in Bellingham, Whatcom County and Washington this month in comparison to The Herald’s April survey, and we found the cheapest local gas station for you.

The average price of a gallon of gas across the United States was $4.45 Monday, May 4, according to AAA — an increase of 35 cents from last month. Last year, the nation’s average was $3.16.

Here’s the local breakdown comparing the price of regular gas:

Washington

​Washington’s average cost of gas per gallon is now $5.67 — a 30-cent increase compared to April’s average. Last May, gas averaged $4.39 a gallon in Washington, according to AAA.

Washington has the third-highest gas prices in the country, following California at $6.11 a gallon and Hawaii at $5.63, according to AAA. Washington has had the third-highest gas prices in the U.S. for seven consecutive months.

Whatcom County and Bellingham

Whatcom County’s average cost of gas is $5.60 a gallon, a 29-cent increase compared to April.

On Monday, May 4, Bellingham’s average price for a gallon of gas was $5.61, according to AAA, a 29-cent increase compared to March.

County’s cheapest gas

The cheapest gas price in Whatcom County on Monday, May 4, was $5.09 at Lummi Bay Market’s 76 Station at 4839 Rural Ave. in Bellingham, according to GasBuddy.

Last month, gas prices in Bellingham, Whatcom County and Washington also increased month-to-month.
