Whatcom Roundup: New Chick-fil-A hiring; tulip farm opens early; small shop closes

Here’s our weekly roundup of the latest retail and restaurant activity around Whatcom County:

Bellingham’s Chick-fil-A closer to opening

The new Chick-fil-A location near Bellis Fair mall is nearing completion and is currently hiring for multiple positions, according to the restaurant’s website.

The restaurant is currently hiring for a director, team members and shift leaders. Applications are available online. The new location does not have an official opening date, but will be at 4030 Cordata Pkwy in Bellingham.

New plant nursery opening

A new plant nursery and garden is opening in Bellingham at 1012 W Holly St., near Lighthouse Missions. Ferny’s, will open Saturday, March 21 and will be open regularly from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.

Skagit Valley tulips blooming early

Tulips are already in bloom in Skagit Valley, and one farm has announced it will be opening early for visitors.

Tulip Town, a 30-acre farm in Mount Vernon, will officially open for the season on Saturday, March 28, according to a news release from the farm.

“The mild winter and warm temperatures mean we’re likely to see blooms earlier than usual,” said Tulip Town farm manager Steve Johnson.

Tickets are available online in advance and include admission, a trolley ride through tulip fields and parking, and range in price from $10-$18. Tulip Town is at 15002 Bradshaw Rd. in Mount Vernon and is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday through Sunday from March 28 through April 30.

Pumped Goods closed permanently

Pumped Goods, a Bellingham bath and body product store, closed permanently in February, according to the shop’s website and Facebook profile.

The shop specialized in house-made soaps and other products that customers could refill their own containers with in order to reduce waste. Pumped Goods was located at 112 Ohio St. Suite 117 in Bellingham.

Peoples Bank opens in historic Fairhaven

Peoples Bank has opened a new bank branch in the Fairhaven neighborhood, next door to the historic Sycamore Square building. The new bank building opened in January for customers but held its official grand opening ribbon-cutting event Feb. 25.

The branch is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Friday at 1315 12th St. in Bellingham.
