Whatcom County gas prices got you down? Here’s our August survey of local costs

Gas prices in Bellingham, Whatcom County and Washington state decreased from Junes’ survey, and we found the cheapest local gas station for you. The average price of a gallon of gas across the United States was $3.15 on Monday, Aug. 4, according to AAA — 2 cents down from last month. Last year, the nation’s average was $3.47.

Here’s the breakdown:

Washington state gas prices

​Washington’s average cost of gas per gallon is now $4.39 — a 2-cent decrease from July’s average of $4.41. Last August, gas averaged $4.23 a gallon in Washington, according to AAA. Washington has the third-highest gas prices in the country, following California at $4.49 a gallon and Hawaii at $4.44 a gallon, according to AAA.

Whatcom County

Whatcom County’s average cost of gas is $4.27 a gallon, an 8-cent decrease compared to July. On Monday, Aug. 4, Bellingham’s average price for a gallon of gas was $4.28, according to AAA. That’s a 7-cent decrease from last month’s average of $4.35

County’s cheapest gas

To find the cheapest gas in your area, the GasBuddy app uses your phone’s location or ZIP code to report the prices of the nearest gas stations in real time. GasBuddy also maintains a list of the 10 cheapest gas prices in Whatcom County and updates prices regularly.

The cheapest gas price in Whatcom County on Monday, Aug. 4, was $3.65 at Mobil, 5927 WA-539 in Bellingham, according to GasBuddy.

Last month, gas prices in Bellingham, Whatcom County and Washington increased.
