Bellingham shipbuilder wins contract for California Fish and Wildlife patrol vessel

Bellingham shipbuilding company All American Marine has been awarded a contract to build a 74-foot-long catamaran patrol vessel. for the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.

The California agency will use the aluminum boat for patrolling along California and international waters along the coast, according to a news release from All American Marine.

The vessel’s design is based on another boat built by All American Marine, Captain Murchison, which was built for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.

It will feature elements critical in enforcing maritime law, providing public safety and protecting California’s natural resources.

One of the systems included in the ship is designed to help increase safety and reduce the time and number of people required to deploy the vessel’s rigid hull inflatable boat. The system will allow for deployment and retrieval of the inflatable boat in under one minute.

The vessel will also feature high-resolution thermal imaging video with tracking abilities.

“We are excited to announce another contract for this innovative build at AAM,” said President and COO of All American Marine Ron Wille in the news release. “Our key mission is to build the most technologically advanced vessels in the world, and we have already started working on this state-of-the-art patrol vessel.”

The vessel will be built with a 2,000-gallon fuel capacity, allowing a longer range of use, according to All American Marine.

The catamaran hull for this vessel was developed by Nic de Waal of Teknicraft Design in Auckland, New Zealand.
