Looking for a new restaurant to try out? Here is the one new Whatcom County eatery that opened in June and one that closed permanently.

Boundary on State

Boundary on State is a new restaurant and bar offshoot of Boundary Bay Brewery, which closed in September. The new location was announced back in February, and it officially opened June 10.

The new restaurant and bar still serves some menu items from the old Boundary Bay Brewery location, as well as its popular brews and cocktails.

Boundary on State is open from noon to 9 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday at 954 N. State St. in Bellingham.

The new brick-and-mortar location is at the former site of Time and Materials Taphouse, which closed in late 2024.

MOTO Pizza

MOTO Pizza, a Seattle-based pizza chain known for unique pizza topping combinations, closed its Bellingham location in June.

The restaurant at 4373 Meridian St. opened last August and took over the previous location of Taco Time.

“MOTO has made the difficult decision to close the Bellingham location after reviewing the future of this specific site,” Griffin Farnes, a spokesperson for MOTO Pizza, told The Bellingham Herald on June 4. “As with any restaurant decision, we looked at the full picture and ultimately were unable to come to terms that made sense for the future of this location.”

“This is goodbye to this specific site for now, not goodbye to Bellingham forever,” Griffin said.

A Dutch Bros coffee drive-through and walk-up window location has been proposed at MOTO’s Bellingham location, according to a pre-application letter published by the city of Bellingham’s project database on May 26.
