Whatcom and Bellingham gas prices drop, averaging below $4 per gallon locally

Gas prices in Bellingham, Whatcom County and Washington decreased in comparison to The Herald’s October survey, and we found the cheapest local gas station for you.

The average price of a gallon of gas across the United States was $3.13 on Monday, Oct. 6, according to AAA — 7 cents down from last month. Last year, the nation’s average was $3.17.

Here’s the local breakdown:

Washington

​Washington’s average cost of gas per gallon is now $4.26 — a 25-cent decrease compared to October’s average. Last November, gas averaged $4.02 a gallon in Washington, according to AAA.

Washington now has the third-highest gas prices in the country, following California at $4.67 a gallon and Hawaii at $4.47, according to AAA. Last month, Washington had the second-highest gas prices in the U.S.

Whatcom County and Bellingham

Whatcom County’s average cost of gas is $3.96 a gallon, a 37-cent decrease compared to October.

On Wednesday, Nov. 5, Bellingham’s average price for a gallon of gas was also $3.96, according to AAA, a 37-cent decrease compared to last month.

County’s cheapest gas

To find the cheapest gas in your area, the GasBuddy app uses your phone’s location or ZIP code to report the prices of the nearest gas stations in real time. GasBuddy also maintains a list of the 10 cheapest gas prices in Whatcom County and updates prices regularly.

The cheapest gas price in Whatcom County on Wednesday, Nov. 5, was $3.35 at ARCO, 3425 Birch Bay Lynden Rd. in Custer, according to GasBuddy.

Last month, gas prices in Bellingham, Whatcom County and Washington increased month-to-month.
