Whatcom Roundup: New Bellingham restaurant, Birch Bay coffee shop

Here’s your weekly roundup of the latest retail and restaurant activity around Whatcom County:

New Bellingham restaurant plans opening

MOTO Pizza — with locations in Bellevue and Seattle, including T-Mobile Park, plans to open its new Bellingham location in August, according to an Instagram post.

The new location was confirmed by The Herald back in December 2023, and it was initially planned to open in spring 2024.

MOTO Pizza will be located at 4373 Meridian St., the previous location of Taco Time.

New coffee shop opens in Birch Bay

The Way Cafe, a coffee shop serving a variety of drinks and pastries, has quietly opened in Birch Bay before its grand opening ribbon-cutting event at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 28.

The new coffee shop donates proceeds from every purchase to Bridge Community Hope Center, a food bank and clothing boutique.

The Way Cafe is open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday at 4323 Alderson Road, Unit 108.

Whatcom unemployment increases

Whatcom County’s unemployment rate increased compared to last month, according to data from the Washington State Employment Security Department.

Whatcom County had a 4.0% unemployment rate with 4,415 unemployed people in May, an increase of 0.3% and 436 people compared to April.
