National retailer At Home files for bankruptcy; Bellingham store to close
A chain store has filed for bankruptcy and is closing its Bellingham location, following Joann’s closure last month just doors away in Sunset Square.
At Home, known for its wide selection of home goods, outdoor and decor items, has filed for bankruptcy and plans to close 26 of its 200 nationwide stores immediately, according to the company’s court filings.
At Home has been operating for more than 46 years and is taking steps “to strengthen its financial foundation and position the business for long-term success while continuing to serve its customers,” according to a statement from the company.
“The company has entered into a Restructuring Support Agreement (RSA) with lenders holding more than 95% of the company’s debt that sets forth terms of a prearranged financial restructuring that will eliminate substantially all of the company’s nearly $2 billion in funded debt and provide a capital infusion of $200 million to support the company through its restructuring process and beyond,” the statement reads.
No closing date for the initial 26 closing stores has been set. A Yakima store will close along with Bellingham, and both locations are no longer listed on the company’s website. The remaining At Home Washington locations are in Spokane, Puyallup and Kennewick.
At Home in Bellingham will likely start liquidation sales soon. The store is regularly open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily at 1001 E Sunset Dr.
