Bellis Fair Mall welcomes new stores, BBQ restaurant opens and vegan restaurant closes
Here’s a roundup of the latest retail and restaurant activity around Whatcom County:
Joe’s Gardens opens for spring
Even with Whatcom County’s recent dusting of snow, Joe’s Gardens opened its doors for the season on Feb. 27.
The garden sells plants, hanging baskets, fruits and vegetable starts and is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Joe’s Gardens is at 3110 Taylor Ave. in Bellingham.
Sage Against the Machine closing
Sage Against the Machine, a Bellingham vegetarian and vegan restaurant and food truck, announced it will close with hopes of selling it to “the right owner who wants to keep our dream and vision alive.”
Sage Against the Machine’s restaurant is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday and Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday and from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, and is at 1213 Cornwall Ave. in Bellingham.
Homeschool BBQ opening weekend
Homeschool BBQ recently opened in Bellingham’s Sunnyland neighborhood at the old site of Homeskillet restaurant. The new restaurant was started by Homeskillet’s previous general manager and opened on Feb. 24.
Homeschool BBQ is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday through Sunday and is at 521 Kentucky St.
New stores coming to mall
Bellis Fair Mall welcomed a new airsoft shooting gallery, as a new sushi restaurant is on its way, according to an email from David Prince, the assistant property manager.
The Airsoft Challenge is a new blacklight airsoft shooting gallery where visitors can shoot targets to win toy prizes.
Rock & Roll Sushi is not open yet as the tenants are currently remodeling one of the food court spaces.
The mall and its stores operate from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and from noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday, and is at 1 Bellis Fair Parkway in Bellingham.
WWU ReMade project returns
Western Washington University’s junior Industrial Design students are participating in the ReMade project, where students use recycled materials and repurpose them to make consumer products, according to a news release from the university.
The project’s opening reception takes place from 6-9 p.m. on Friday, March 10, where visitors can meet the students, learn about their design process and even purchase their products at Ideal, a Bellingham design shop.
The products will be for sale through March 31 at Ideal at 1227 Cornwall Ave. in Bellingham.
