Sage Against the Machine, a Bellingham vegetarian and vegan restaurant and food truck, announced it will close with hopes of selling it to “the right owner who wants to keep our dream and vision alive.”

The closure was announced in a Facebook post on Thursday, March 2.

The popular vegan eatery opened in 2018 when co-owners Nate Johnson and Tara Folenius first opened their food truck. In September 2020 they signed the lease for the restaurant but did not officially open until February 2022 because of financial issues and the COVID-19 pandemic, according to previous reporting by The Bellingham Herald.

According to the Facebook post, there is no official date for the closure.

“I know this comes to a shock to most of you, but it is real. The 17 months it took us to open this restaurant took everything out of us, and we can no longer keep it going. We don’t have an actual close date yet, but it is near. We will definitely keep you all in the loop for sure,” the post states.

The restaurant is currently listed for sale on Craigslist for $550,000, including the business’s branding, equipment, food truck, restaurant lease takeover, grocery store, recipes, training for a smooth takeover, and the food truck event schedule.

“We are so blessed in our lives to have the love and support from all of you and our community that you all bring us peace, understanding, and encouragement for what lies ahead for us. We can not thank you enough for your kind words and support. You all will be missed deeply. We will still be actively involved in our community just in another way, so we will definitely see you around town,” the post states.

Sage Against the Machine’s restaurant is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday and Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday and from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, and is at 1213 Cornwall Ave. in Bellingham.
