Two restaurants have opened in Bellingham, but there are also business closures
Here’s a roundup of recent retail activity in Whatcom County:
▪ W Thai Express is now open at 2201 Cornwall Ave., in the former Johnny’s Donuts space near Bellingham High School. According to its Facebook page, dishes for the takeout and delivery spot include Pad Thai, tropical fried rice and a variety of curries.
▪ Also opening is Milano’s Seafood in Fairhaven.
The Italian and seafood restaurant, which moved to the Knights of Pythias Building at 1208 11th St. from Glacier, will start with dinner and full bar from 4-10 p.m. every day except Tuesdays. The restaurant will have indoor and outdoor seating, as well as a to-go menu.

▪ Washington Tractor, which has a store in Lynden, announced that it has been sold to Pape Machinery as of Thursday, Oct. 1. All 12 of the Washington Tractor stores will be closed Oct. 2-4 for transition inventory work, reopening on Monday, Oct. 5.
▪ Henderson Books announced on Facebook that it has reopened, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. The store, which is at 116 Grand Ave. in downtown Bellingham, expects a large influx of books as customers trade-in what they’ve read during the COVID-19 pandemic.
▪ The Frosty Inn at Maple Falls announced on Facebook that it has decided to be a seasonal establishment and will only be open in the spring and summer months. The restaurant reopened last year under new ownership after being closed for several years.
▪ After being closed for six months because of COVID-19, Boardworks Tech Shop has reopened at 1215 Railroad Ave. The snowboard shop, which is open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday, also offers tune-ups and restoration work.
▪ The Little Roadside Tavern near Deming announced on Facebook that it will not be reopening and has begun selling its equipment and signs. According to the post the tavern had been around for more than 80 years.
▪ Social Fabric has moved into a new space in downtown Bellingham. The women’s clothing boutique, textile art gallery and learning facility is now at the Bay Street Village building on the corner of West Holly and Bay streets.
▪ Artivem Mead Co. is now operating in the Granary Building on Bellingham’s waterfront, offering online sales of mead that is available for pickup, local delivery and shipping.
▪ The Whatcom Humane Society has submitted a sign permit for a new thrift shop at 4151 Meridian St., near the Burlington clothing store.
