USA Today held a competition to find the best 10 brewpubs across the United States, and one of Bellingham’s breweries made the list.

Otherlands Beer, a brewery and cafe in Bellingham, ranked seventh in the national competition after being nominated by a panel of beer experts and receiving votes online.

Otherlands was the only brewery in Washington to make the list of 20 nominees and the final 10 ranking. The 20 brewpub nominees were chosen by the panel based on their house beers, guest brews and food offerings, according to previous reporting by The Bellingham Herald.

“We’re still surprised by the inclusion of our little brewery in the USA Today Top 10 Poll, but very grateful for the opportunity to shine a national spotlight on Bellingham and this wonderful community, with a special thank you to all the folks that put their thumb on the scale for us,” Otherland’s owner, Karolina Lobrow said.

Otherlands was launched in June 2020 by Lobrow and Ben Howe, who wanted to create “a cozy beautiful space” with inspiration from Lobrow’s Polish heritage, according to the brewery’s website.

“We’re pretty damn lucky that we can make a weird, vegetarian brewpub focused on classic European beer, and have that be recognized. Otherlands wouldn’t be what it is without the fantastic people that work here to create the incredible food, beer, and experience that we love sharing with everyone that walks through our doors,” Lobrow said.

Otherlands is open from noon to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at 2121 Humboldt St. in Bellingham’s Sunnyland neighborhood.
