Bellingham welcomed three new restaurants in November, as two closed down permanently

Looking for a new restaurant to try out? Whatcom County had four new restaurants open throughout October.

Roe

Roe, a “ neighborhood restaurant on the corner of Unity & Flora,” is an American restaurant serving dishes with influences from Spain, Italy and France, according to the restaurant’s website.

“Expect to see dishes that you are used to seeing at fancy restaurants & some you would typically find at a drive-thru or dive bar. but they all are served on a plate from Goodwill,” their website states.

The restaurant opened Wednesday, Nov. 6 and serves dishes family style to share, such as caviar, Dungeness crab, focaccia, burgers, halibut and ricotta gnocchi, alongside craft cocktails and a selection of wines.

Roe is open from 4 t 9 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday, and from 4 to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday at 207 Unity St. Suite 101 in Bellingham.

Cultured Harvests

Cultured Harvests, a restaurant serving soups, sandwiches, salads, toasts and spreads, opened in Bellis Fair mall on Friday, Nov. 29 in suite 515.

The restaurant’s menu includes made-from-scratch items such as harvest pumpkin soup, Thai steak salad, Pacific roasted salmon sandwich, spiced avocado toast, crab salsa, berries and cream toast, a Rueben sandwich and build-your-own options.

The restaurant is open during normal mall hours inside the mall’s food court. Bellis Fair mall is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, although holiday hours may vary.

The Bellis Fair mall is at 1 Bellis Fair Parkway in Bellingham.

Roman Artisan Bake

Roman Artisan Bake is an international bake shop launched by Ed Roman that previously operated out of a kiosk inside Bellis Fair mall. The business opened a full-functioning bakery inside the mall’s food court on Friday, Nov. 29 in suite 516.

The bakery’s menu features desserts from across the globe including rum cake, creme brulee, torta maría luisa, cuatro leches and guava pastries.

Roman Artisan Bake also follows the malls operating hours and is regularly open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday. The Bellis Fair mall is at 1 Bellis Fair Parkway in Bellingham.

Bellingham restaurant closures

Two local restaurants also closed during the month of November:

Time and Materials Taphouse

Time and Materials, a taproom and restaurant in Bellingham, closed permanently Saturday, Nov. 23. The closure was announced Nov. 15 in a social media post.

“Thank you thank you thank you to everyone who has made Time and Materials such a special place. We are heartbroken to be leaving, but so grateful to have been able to serve you for the past 2 and a half years. We’ll be pouring until Saturday, the 23rd, and we hope you’ll join us in celebrating the little community we have built here,” the Instagram post states.

The taproom and restaurant was at 954 N State St.

Waffles in Paradise

Waffles in Paradise — a catering food business often at the Bellingham Farmers Market — and its sister business, PNWaffle Boutique, both were closed by owner Inga Elvrom on Saturday, Nov. 30.

Elvrom decided to close the businesses “due to finances and lack of business downtown,” The Bellingham Herald previously reported.

PNWaffle Boutique was located at 1230 Cornwall Ave.
