We asked readers where to find the best nachos in Whatcom County, and the votes are in.

The poll had 18 local restaurant options in Whatcom County, including El Agave, Greene’s Corner, Jalapenos and Extremes Sports Grill and Pizzeria.

The unscientific poll received 112 votes.

The best nachos in Whatcom County

Black Sheep received 23 votes, or 21% of the total, to top the list of the best nachos in Whatcom County.

This isn’t the first reader poll Black Sheep has won, as the bar was also named as making the best fish tacos in Whatcom County, beating out 15 other local restaurants.

Black Sheep is a 21 and over bar that serves enchiladas, tacos, breakfast burritos, cocktails, wine, beer and agave spirits with a wide variety of tequilas and mezcals.

The bar’s nachos include housemade tortilla chips, queso, black beans, pickled jalapenos, cilantro, sweet corn salsa and cotija. Guests can also add other toppings such as carne asada, pork belly, chicken, chorizo, guacamole, carnitas, rock fish and jalapeno lime crema for an additional cost.

Black Sheep is also popular online, receiving a 4.5-star rating from 382 reviews on Yelp. On Google Reviews, Black Sheep received a 4.6-star review from 848 reviews.

Black Sheep is open from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday and is at 211 W Holly St. in Bellingham.

In second place was Jalapenos with 20 votes.

Jalapeno’s has four locations in Bellingham and is known for its Mexican food and large margaritas.

The restaurant’s nachos include tortilla chips, refried beans, jack and cheddar cheeses, guacamole, sour cream, jalapenos and green onions. Guests can add chicken, ground beef, carne asada or carnitas for an extra cost.

Jalapenos is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and from 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday at three of its Bellingham locations at 501 W. Holly St., 1007 Harris Ave. and 4451 Meridian St. The Barkley Village location is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. to midnight on Saturday, and is at 2945 Newmarket Place.

In third place was Mi Mexico with 13 votes, and Extremes Sports Grill and Pizzeria and Boundary Bay Brewing Co. tied for fourth place with 8 votes.
