See which eateries earned top marks from Health Department

More than 50 area restaurants, diners, food trucks, fast-food joints and bakeries earned top marks from the Whatcom County Health Department after its annual inspections last year.

Only 3.5 percent of food-service establishments qualify for the annual Silver Platter Award, which lauds dining establishments that achieved outstanding scores during routine food-safety inspections in 2016, the Health Department said in a statement.

A total of 56 locations with food permits were cited for excellence this year, up from 35 last year, said Tom Kunesh, environmental health supervisor. Those locations had no “critical” violations, which Kunesh said are hygiene or food-handling and storage violations that could cause a customer to get sick.

Here are the food establishments that received the Silver Platter Award:
