Wilson has round of her career on 1st day of state
Mount Baker’s Gemma Wilson picked the perfect time to not only have the best round of her year, but also have the best round of her career.
Wilson’s 91 was good enough for 11th place after day one of the Class 1A State Championships on Tuesday, May 24, at Liberty Lake Golf Course in Spokane.
“She was just hitting the ball really well and recovering,” coach Mike Lembo said.
Her teammate Clara Bergman (89) is tied for eighth place and nine strokes behind the leader, Hannah Roh of King’s.
“I was pretty happy with my score,” Bergman said. “My woods were working out for me.”

Erik Vander Velden (87) of Lynden Christian had the low score of the four Whatcom County boys’ golf state qualifiers and finished in a tie for 37th.
Mount Baker’s Mason Bass (88) snuck in under the cutline of 88 to advance to the second day of state.
