Hopscotch, a mixed pup, is busy hopping around her foster home, enjoying playtime and snuggles. But she might still be suffering at the hands of her former abusive owner if a witness, the city, and a shelter hadn’t stepped in.

“Happy, bouncy Hopscotch had a hard past, but she’s not letting it hold her back from living every single day to the fullest now,” Paws Chicago said in a Dec. 30 Instagram post. The video posted is one of a playful puppy enjoying toys and pets.

“This 10-month-old was confiscated by the city after a witness reported seeing her owner hit her. When her matted fur had to be shaved away, they found bruises from the abuse.”

Good news is, she’s now safe and sound.

“Thankfully she didn’t have any more extensive injuries, and after her owner gave up ownership, we were able to bring her to PAWS for the start of a new life, which Hopscotch is jumping into with all four paws!” the shelter said.

Now, Hopscotch is in need of a permanent, and loving, home.

People flocked to the comment section to give the puppy — and potential owners — words of encouragement.

“Oh my goodness, what a sweetheart!!! Whoever gets her is LUCKY!!” one person said.

“How great there was a witness who had the courage to report the cruelty. This wonderful beautiful happy dog deserves a great home,” another chimed in.

“The perfect name for that perfect dog!” someone commented.
