Woman who vanished in crash found dead days later a quarter-mile away, Indiana cops say

A woman who crashed her vehicle was found dead days later — a quarter-mile away from the scene of the accident, Indiana authorities say.

Deputies in Wayne County had been looking for 59-year-old Lorena Scott since she crashed her Chevrolet Malibu on Nov. 30, according to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office. Investigators came upon her vehicle that had been involved in a single-vehicle crash, but it was unoccupied.

Multiple officers and a drone team searched for Scott, and it was eventually expanded and intensified when the initial search came up empty, according to the sheriff.

On Dec. 3, crews found Scott’s body “in a creek adjacent to a large culvert,” authorities said in a news release. The body was discovered a quarter-mile from where she crashed her car.

A cause of death is undetermined, but authorities do not suspect foul play.

“We extend our deepest condolences to Mrs. Scott’s family and loved ones during this difficult time,” the sheriff’s office said.

Wayne County is about a 65-mile drive east from Indianapolis.
