A kayaker paddling down a river came across a grim discovery, Michigan police told local news outlets.
A decomposing human torso was tangled within an embankment on the Lower Rouge River in Wayne on Oct. 16, police said in an Oct. 21 news release. The kayaker called authorities upon finding the remains.
More remains were discovered in the river the following day, and Michigan State Police pulled the lower half of the body from the water, police said.
The lower half of the decomposing body was placed onto a gurney, CBS reported, but police said they were not able to identify the remains at the scene.
The body parts were taken to the Wayne County Medical Examiner’s Office for an investigation, according to police.
Wayne is about a 25-mile drive southwest from Detroit.
