Human remains found in vehicle that caused Texas pipeline fire, officials say
Human remains have been found inside the white vehicle that crashed into a pipeline in Texas, causing a fire that’s been burning for three days, officials said.
Around 7 a.m. on Sept. 19, Deer Park police removed the vehicle from the site of the fire, according to a news release from the city. Human remains were found inside the vehicle, officials said.
The remains have not been identified, but the situation has developed into a criminal investigation, officials said.
As of 10:30 a.m. Thursday, the fire is still burning but has diminished, according to the city.
The natural gas fire erupted the morning of Sept. 16, when a white vehicle drove through a fence along a Walmart parking lot and struck the pipeline valve, authorities said.
Many residents in the area lost power and were evacuated when the fire started, officials said. Some were able to return to their homes the night of Sept. 18, officials said.
Deer Park’s Office of Emergency Management says the air quality of the area has not been impacted.
Deer Park is about a 20-mile drive southeast from downtown Houston.
