Women arriving to work doused in gas and set on fire by ex-employee, Michigan cops say
Two women were arriving at work when a former employee ambushed their vehicle with gasoline and set it on fire, Michigan police told news outlets.
The workers, who are in their 50s and 60s, were believed to be the first two who arrived at work around 6 a.m. on Sept. 9, making them the ex-employee’s target, Detroit officers told WDIV.
“He took an accelerant to the vehicle they were sitting in, poured it on the vehicle or around the vehicle, lit that vehicle on fire,” Detroit Police Chief James White told WKBD. “They were inside the vehicle.”
The women suffered severe burns on their face, neck, shoulders and torso, police said, and they were rushed to the hospital, according to WJBK.
“This is absurd and it’s sad,” White said to WDIV. “Thank goodness the two victims are likely to survive from their injuries -- at least physical injuries. Emotional injuries? Probably not. It’s just horrific.”
A witness tackled the suspect and held him down until police arrived, according to WJBK.
The suspect had been recently fired or suspended from the auto parts manufacturer, according to WKBD.
Police did not identify the suspect.
