Five boaters rescued after vessel capsizes 11 miles off Florida coast, photos show
Five people were rescued after officials say the 24-foot vessel they were aboard capsized.
The U.S. Coast Guard responded to a 911 call from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office at 10:15 a.m July 7, according to a news release.
The five people were wearing life jackets, sitting on top of an overturned vessel 11 miles off the coast of Mayport.
The Coast Guard crew brought all five aboard a response boat and took them to a Mayport boat ramp where family members were waiting for them.
“While on the water, situations can become unpredictable and dangerous in an instant, so it’s crucial to be prepared,” Cmdr. Nick Barrow, Sector Jacksonville search and rescue mission coordinator, said in the release.
No injuries were reported and officials are investigating what caused the vessel to capsize.
