Light pole topples onto car in Ferndale I-5 crash
A light pole fell on top of a car that crashed into it on Interstate 5 Tuesday morning, June 2, and the driver escaped with minor injuries, according to the Washington State Patrol.
Andrew M. Gomez, 25, of Tacoma swerved to avoid a car he thought was coming into his lane while driving south on I-5 around 9 a.m., said WSP spokesman Mark Francis. He hit a light pole at the Portal Way off-ramp that then fell down and smashed his car.
Gomez was transported to St. Joseph hospital with a hand injury and a minor cut to his head. He was cited for wheels off the roadway, since Gomez admitted the car he swerved to avoid never actually switched lanes, Francis said.
Gomez’ car, a Toyota Camry, was towed from the scene.
