Deputies searching for suspected burglar, armed robber south of Bellingham

Deputies are searching for an armed robber who threatened a homeowner south of Bellingham with a gun and took his cellphone around 11:30 Tuesday morning, May 26.

The owner of a home on the 700 block of Old Samish Road caught the man mid-burglary. The burglar then robbed the owner. He was accompanied by four other people — two men and two women — who drove from the scene in a red Chevrolet Cavalier sedan while the robber ran off, according to the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office.

Whatcom County Undersheriff Jeff Parks said the homeowner went to a neighbor’s house to call 911. Parks said there is evidence of a burglary that occurred prior to the cellphone robbery.

Several nearby patrol units and a U.S. border helicopter searched Old Samish Road and the Pine and Cedar Lakes trailhead area, but the robber was able to get away.

Detectives continued to investigate the robbery Tuesday. Deputies ask that anyone with information call 911 or call the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office at 360-676-6650.
