Police release sketch of groper in Cordata area

Police have released a sketch of a man suspected of groping young women along a trail by the new Cordata Park.

The suspect has been described as 5-foot-2 to 5-foot-6 and about 13 to 20 years old. He’s slender, has short brown hair and a dark complexion. He was seen riding a skateboard prior to one attack.

Five incidents have been reported since Aug. 31, according to the Bellingham Police Department. They occurred on or near Cordata Parkway between Horton Road and Meadowbrook Court, and along the trail between the two roads.

Police say the attacker has approached victims from behind and grabbed their buttocks, waist or pelvic area. He then runs off in an “awkward manner,” according to police. The attacks occurred between 4 and 8 p.m.

Girls and women who walk in the area are advised to walk with a buddy, keep track of surroundings, and keep headphone volume low enough to hear others approaching. They should call 911 immediately to report an incident.

Anyone that recognizes the suspect or believes they have information is asked to contact Detective Sue Howell at 360-778-8682.
