FERNDALE — A robber stole a Bic lighter but nothing else from a mini mart in Ferndale early Monday morning, July 28, according to police.
A white man in his 20s — his face covered by a bandana — walked into the Ferndale Mini Market around 12:20 a.m. at 2085 Main St., said Ferndale Police Lt. Matt Huffman. He tucked his hand into his coat pocket, as if he had a concealed weapon, and told the clerk to hand over money.
According to Ferndale Police, the clerk refused his demand, to which the dumbfounded robber asked, "What?"
"You need to leave the store," she replied.

But the robber didn't leave empty-handed, Huffman said. On his way outside he swiped a Bic lighter.
Huffman said the robber wore a black-and-white flannel jacket and khaki shorts. He had a long bowl-style haircut and "darker" hair, police said.
