Bellingham police arrest suspect as part of child rape investigation

Officers with the Bellingham Police Department arrested a 30-year-old man late Thursday afternoon in connection to the investigation of the rape of a child.

The rape was reported just after midnight Sunday on East Magnolia Street in downtown Bellingham, two days after the sexual assault allegedly occurred. At the time, no suspects had been identified.

No additional details about how the man was identified and arrested were available.

The 30-year-old faces charges of second-degree assault, third-degree child rape and indecent exposure. He is being held in Whatcom County Jail, and he has yet to be formally charged.
