Bellingham police investigating case involving the rape of a child

The Bellingham Police Department is investigating the rape of a child that was reported Friday.

BPD Lt. Claudia Murphy said police were called to East Magnolia Street in downtown Bellingham at 12:13 a.m. Sunday for a reported sexual assault. Officers spoke with the victim, and the case was assigned to the BPD Investigations Division.

No suspects have been identified yet, and no arrests have been made. Murphy said the victim is safe.
