Hit-and-run suspect arrested after Whatcom County I-5 crash injures three

Officers with the Washington State Patrol arrested a suspect involved in a collision on southbound Interstate 5 over Labor Day weekend in Whatcom County.

Three people were taken to the hospital for injuries following the collision, which occurred around 11:30 p.m. Aug. 31 near Custer, according to a release from the Washington State Patrol (WSP).

One vehicle struck the back of a second vehicle on I-5, according to WSP. The first vehicle came to a rest on the right shoulder, and the second vehicle stopped in the median.

The suspect fled the scene on foot but was later located and arrested on suspicion of vehicular assault, hit and run with injury, DUI and driving with a suspended license, according to WSP.
