No charges in deadly Sedro-Woolley park shooting after first suspect released

Authorities have not yet charged any suspects following a shooting at a Sedro-Woolley park on July 5 that left one dead and five others injured.

The original suspect was arrested a few hours after the shooting, according to Skagit County Prosecutor Rich Weyrich, but was later released from custody.

No other suspects have been arrested at this time and there is no known threat to the public, according to Sedro-Woolley Police Chief Dan McIlraith. 

The incident remains under investigation.

The shooting occurred around 11:19 p.m. at Memorial Park at 697 Pacific Street, taking the life of 19-year-old Jared Pena-Salgado, from Sedro-Woolley. Those injured included one woman and four men, ranging in age from 20 to 47 years old, McIlraith said.

Investigators remained at the scene for hours after the shooting, processing a “significant amount of evidence,” which included the discovery of two firearms, according to police.
