Bellingham man reportedly threatens police detective in 800-plus messages sent to tip line

A Bellingham man already convicted of threatening and harassing two victims, including a Bellingham Police detective, reportedly sent more than 800 messages to the department’s tip line in the past five months with threatening and profane language against the detective and his family.

The Bellingham Police Department booked Shaun Michael Dickison, 33, into Whatcom County Jail on Friday, Feb. 25, on suspicion of felony harassment, stalking and violation of a protection order.

In December of 2019, Bellingham Police arrested Dickison for stalking and harassing a female victim, rambling about “raping” and “killing” in several hundred posts and emails, according to Whatcom County Superior Court documents.

Dickison then began harassing the investigating detective, documents state.

Dickison ultimately pleaded guilty to one count of stalking and a court order was issued Jan. 31, 2020, prohibiting Dickison from contacting the victim or the detective.

But on Sept. 21, 2021, Dickson began sending emails to the Bellingham Police Department’s tip line, using the name Shaun Dickison and other names, documents state. Many of the emails reportedly included obscene words and language.

Police examined the emails and found the wording and language appeared consistent with those Dickison sent in 2019 to the detective and the victim, according to documents. They also traced the IP address that many of the emails were sent from back an account assigned to Dickison’s mother.

In all, more than 800 messages believed to be from Dickison were sent to the department’s tip line as of mid-February, documents state, and some included threats to kill the detective and threatened the safety of the detective’s daughter. The detective is one of five Bellingham Police Department employees who receive emails from the tip line.
